MAHZAD MOHAJER, MS, LMFT ASSOCIATE

LICENSED MARRIAGE AND FAMILY THERAPIST ASSOCIATE

SUPERVISED BY NELLIANA ACUNA, LMFT-S

As an immigrant, Mahzad is equipped with addressing the complexities of being multicultural in the U.S. In her experience as a therapist, she knows how difficult it is for clients to trust their therapist. It's hard to open up when you are talking to a complete stranger, once that trust is established, the client will find it easier to disclose to a therapist. And more so, what the client hopes to gain out of therapy in regard to reaching their goals. Mahzad's experience in healthcare has taught her the importance of compassion, clear communication, and understanding the impact of health on family dynamics. She brings a combination of empathy, strategic thinking, and a client-centered approach to every session.

As an Iranian American woman who comes from a complex background and who has endured many experiences, she has the versatility to reach clients and understand the depths of their struggles. Mahzad believes that getting to know the client for who they are is extremely crucial to what they want to get out of therapy.

While interning at the VA DeBakey Medical Center, she specialized in working with veterans (mostly couples) who suffered from PTSD, depression, anxiety and trauma related issues. During my initial session with clients, we would discuss what brought them into therapy, what goals they would like to achieve from therapy. A majority of her clients saw a gradual shift of symptoms as therapy progressed. During her free time, Mahzad loves supporting charitable organizations and giving back to the community.
