matt vitemb, lcsw – psychiatric nurse practitioner intern (supervised by dr. vagdevi meunier, psy.d)

My name is Matt Vitemb. I am a clinical social worker and am interning at TCFR as I finish my masters of science in nursing at UT Austin to become a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. I have been providing psychotherapy since 2014 when I graduated with a masters of science in social work from UT Austin.

I am often surprised and delighted by the ways my patients are able to change their lives, and I find that doing therapy is humbling and full of moments where people feel deep relief and hope. Building a relationship with a therapist who is a good fit offers you opportunities to experience yourself and others in ways you didn’t think were possible–and, over time, allows you to trust in your ability to respond differently in all the ordinary moments that really matter.

My style is to be very transparent and engaged, and to help slow you down so we can work moment-by-moment directly with the emotions and other experiences that are happening while we are together in session. I have a very strong behavioral background that allows me to functionally analyze interactions between people, teach specific communication and emotion regulation skills, and help you understand how you can actually change your behavioral patterns in relationships, one trigger at a time. I’m comfortable working with couples where one or both partners struggle with suicidality, self-injury, rage outbursts, dissociation, feelings of emptiness and self-loathing, panic attacks, substance use, and histories of abuse or child maltreatment.
